Predecessor:

COVESTRO was originally a part of Bayer Group. Bayer was a German chemical and pharmaceutical giant founded in 1863. Bayer grew to become one of the world's largest chemical companies in the 20th century, with businesses in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agriculture, and other fields.

Spin-off in 2015:

Due to strategic realignment, COVESTRO was formally spun off as an independent chemical company from Bayer Group on September 1, 2015. Bayer continued to focus on pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and agriculture businesses after the spin-off.

Restructuring and renaming:

After the 2015 spin-off, COVESTRO continued its focus on producing high-performance polymers and polymer raw materials. In April 2019, COVESTRO underwent a restructuring and was renamed COVESTRO in October of the same year. The name COVESTRO is derived from the words "collaboration" and "invest," emphasizing its spirit of collaboration and commitment to innovation and investment.

The company's main business areas include the manufacturing and sales of high-performance polymer materials such as polyurethane, polycarbonate, and polyvinyl chloride.
